Kota Kinabalu: Sabahans who had the rare honour of meeting late Pope Francis reflected on their personal encounters that left a lasting impact on them.

Anna Teresa Peter Amandus, 44, the Diocesan Pastoral Administrator of the Diocese of Sandakan, admired Pope Francis for his courage.

“He was brave to go against the tide, he spoke the truth about the poor, migrants, marginalised, environment and the young. “And behind it all was a very humble person. I met him twice, in 2023 and 2024, so the feeling of missing him is very strong,” she said.

Roney Alfred Eming, a pastoral worker from Kg Bundu, in Kuala Penyu, said he was one of only two Malaysian delegates who attended the International Youth Ministry Congress at Vatican City last May.
