Sandakan Municipal Council’ efforts for cleaner, safer city showing results

SANDAKAN: Efforts of the Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) to make Sandakan a clean and safe town are highly welcomed.  

Sandakan Member of Parliament Vivian Wong Shir Yee expressed confidence that MPS President Walter Kenson has many plans in place to ensure these efforts are successfully implemented.

“I have observed several positive changes, particularly in educating the public on the importance of not littering indiscriminately through the anti-littering campaign.  

“We will also continue to work closely with the council to ensure Sandakan remains a preferred destination for tourists,” she said, adding that this is in line with the opening of new and existing hotels in Sandakan which are set to attract more visitors in the future.

Vivian said that aside from MPS, she also appreciated the role played by security agencies and other parties who continue to ensure the town prospering.  

She was speaking to the media after officiating the MPS Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025 celebration at the Sandakan Community Hall here Monday.

Also present were Senator Annabell @ Suzieana Perian, Tanjong Papat Assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung, Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department Zone Chief Jasri Ab Jal, Sandakan District Police Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah and Sungai Sibuga Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Division Chief Datuk Amirshah Yaakub.  

Vivian said the event demonstrated the spirit of harmony through the festive celebrations held together every year.

Meanwhile, Walter said that MPS would continue to strengthen its anti-littering initiatives and educate those found littering in the district.  

“This is one of our efforts to ensure that no one irresponsibly disposes of waste without considering the impact on their environment,” he explained.
