Former KDCA vice-president questions leadership decisions
KOTA KINABALU: Recent top-level appointments within the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) have sparked a public backlash over concerns of unilateral decision-making and a lack of transparency, claimed KDCA Kampung Soboong/Boliga chairman Datuk Michael S Malanjun (pic).

He cited the appointment of Datuk John Anthony as Deputy President despite his election loss and the dual role given to Datuk Joseph Paulus Lantip as both Deputy President and Treasurer-General as moves that undermine democratic norms within the association.

Michael, a former KDCA vice-president, also criticised the removal of long-serving leaders including himself and Ko-Pusaka representative James Kenson, calling it a disregard for community legacy and the historical roots of KDCA’s Hongkod Koisaan land.

He expressed concern over KDCA’s proposal to commercially redevelop the Penampang grounds—donated by villagers in 1988—warning it could displace cultural practices and restrict access to life members and local communities.

Cosmobeauté Malaysia and beautyexpo will expand into East Malaysia with the launch of the Cosmobeauté Malaysia Borneo Festival 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) from May 25 to 26.
Calling for transparency and respect, Michael urged the current leadership to honour election outcomes, consult its members, and prioritise KDCA’s founding principles of cultural stewardship and community unity.
