PENAMPANG: Three men were arrested in a midnight drug bust with police seizing various types of drugs valued at RM3,300, here, Wednesday.
Penampang District Police Chief Supt Sammy Newton said the suspects, aged between 18 and 38, were apprehended around 12.15am.
During the raid, police confiscated three blue plastic packets containing what is believed to be ecstasy weighing 113.52 grams, 15 multi-coloured pills suspected to be ecstasy weighing 8.08 grammes and two clear plastic packets of different sizes believed to contain ketamine weighing 5.00 grammes.
“All three suspects tested positive for ketamine during initial urine screening tests,” he said in a statement, here, Wednesday.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment (30 years) and, if not sentenced to death, a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
The suspects are also being investigated under Sections 39A(1), 12(2), and 15(1)(a) of the same Act. All three men are currently being held on remand.
Police reminded the public to avoid involvement with substance abuse and are encouraged to continue serving as the eyes and ears of law enforcement by providing information to help combat drug-related issues in the community.
In RANAU, two local men have been arrested in two separate incidents on suspicion of being involved in drug abuse and trafficking.
In the first case on April 28, police arrested a local man on suspicion of being involved in drug activities.
Examination of the suspect, 29, found that he was in possession of syabu.
He committed several previous drug-related offences and is being detained for further investigation under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In the second case on April 26, police arrested a local man here on suspicion of being involved in drug abuse and trafficking.
The man was found to have substances known as syabu.
The 30-year-old suspect has several past records related to offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The suspect is being detained for further investigation under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
