TAWAU: The motorcyclist in a viral video who allegedly attempted to flee from police inspection at Mile 4 Jalan Apas on Monday had also committed several traffic offences previously.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said when checked, the 28-year-old suspect was also found to have four summonses issued to him.
He said the incident occurred at around 7.50am while two traffic officers from the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) were on duty managing traffic.
“While the police was on duty to ensure smooth traffic flow, a motorcyclist suddenly stopped in a suspicious manner.
“When officers attempted to conduct an inspection, the motorcyclist panicked and suddenly accelerated, causing one of the officers to fall,” Jasmin said in a media statement on Tuesday.
A video recording of the incident went viral on social media at around 10.23am, showing the motorcyclist trying to evade the police inspection.
He also advised the public to cooperate with officers when inspections are being carried out.
