RM25 million smuggled goods seized in April

LAHAD DATU: The General Operation Force (GOF) detained 81 individuals and seized RM25.7 million worth of smuggled items following raids conducted in April, this year.

Sabah GOF Commander, Datuk Abdul Rani Alias, said the individuals detained comprising 36 locals, 17 Filipinos, 25 China nationals, two Pakistanis and one from Indonesia.

They were detained separately in 35 raids conducted by Sabah GOF throughout the State.

Among the items seized during the raids are smuggled cigarettes, Crude Palm Oil (CPO), frozen foods without Halal and legal import certificates and others.

“The biggest seizures were made following the raid conducted on an unnumbered premise in Jalan POIC, Lahad Datu in which we seized 104.543 tonnes of palm oil without license.

“The seizures were estimated worth RM2.09 million. Investigation of this case was carried out under Regulation 5 (1)(D), MPOB (Licensing) Regulations 2005,” he said, in a statement, Friday.

According to Abdul Rani, following another raid on a premise in Jalan Dam, Lahad Datu, GOF seized a total of 3.096 million sticks of cigarettes (Rokok Putih and Kretek).

He said, during the raid, two local men were detained for investigation under the Custom Acts 1967.

“The seizures including a van which is believed used in this activity were estimated worth RM9.319 million including tax,” he said.

In the meantime, Abdul Rani said GOF will continue to carry out their responsibilities in maintaining national security and public order.

The police also calls on the public to become the eyes and ears of the police in its crime prevention efforts.
