KOTA KINABALU: An accident involving two pedestrians and two motorcycles occurred at around 10.40pm on Friday along Jalan UMS near Plaza Alam Mesra.

According to initial investigations, two women were crossing the road when they were hit by a female motorcyclist travelling from the city centre toward Sepanggar.

One of the pedestrians died on the spot while the other sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

Another unidentified motorcycle is also believed to have been involved in the incident, but the rider fled the scene and has yet to be identified.

“We are actively investigating to identify the second motorcyclist who fled the scene. We urge anyone with information to come forward to assist the investigation,” said Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Kasim Muda.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
