TAWAU: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (BSMM) Tawau branch, in collaboration with Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Tawau (Tawau IPGK) hosted the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day Celebration Carnival at the institute’s campus, recently. 

Held under the theme “On the Humanity Side” the event featured a display of community service and volunteerism through various activities, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation demonstrations and first aid training, health screenings and blood donation drives and art competitions and educational quizzes.

The carnival was coordinated by Tawau Red Crescent Volunteer Team Chairman Chin Yin Min with strong participation from Tawau IPGK staff and students. 

The event highlighted the power of cross-institutional collaboration in fostering humanitarian values among youth.

In his opening address, Tawau IPGK Director Dr Najamuddin Bahcora praised the initiative as an invaluable learning platform for students. 

He particularly commended Tawau Red Crescent President Pang Pak Chong for his decades of dedicated community service.

“Events like this allow our teacher trainees to develop leadership and event management skills, aligning with the 8K leadership criteria,” said Dr Najamuddin. 

He also expressed gratitude to parents and educators for encouraging youth participation despite the Labour Day holiday.

Looking ahead, he voiced hope for continued community engagement by BSMM IPGK Tawau in future humanitarian efforts.  

Also present were Tawau IPGK Co-curricular Head Seminar Sunari and IPGK Tawau BSMM Coordinator Dr Norjanah Ambo, among others. 

The organising committee extended thanks to key supporters including Wah Choi Pharmacy, PMG Pharmacy, Tawau Hospital Blood Bank and academic partners like UiTM Tawau and Politeknik Tawau. 

Corporate contributions from Nestlé (Milo & Maggi) and Asgadian Art Tawau were also acknowledged. The carnival concluded with a renewed commitment to uphold the Red Crescent’s core values namely humanity, service and unity ensuring lasting positive impact in the Tawau community.
