PKR confirms divisional polls results, defeat of bigwigs
PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said the party will hold a nationwide ‘pre-congress’ tour for candidates in the central leadership elections to meet delegates and introduce themselves.
PETALING JAYA: The PKR central leadership council has confirmed the results of its divisional elections last month, including the defeat of bigwigs such as party vice-presidents Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and K Saraswathy.

PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said the final results of the divisional polls could be accessed on PKR’s website.

She also said that PKR’s new “proportional representation” system for the upcoming central leadership council elections would allow candidates who failed to win division chief posts to send delegates for the party’s upcoming congress.

Adding that the move was expected to “garner attention”, she said these figures would be allowed to name a list of delegates for the PKR congress, based on the share of votes they received at the divisional elections.

Fuziah said this exemplified the principle that “the winners did not win it all, while the losers did not lose everything”, and that it would further vitalise PKR’s democratic process as the party elects its new top leadership.

A slew of prominent incumbent divisional leaders were knocked out last month as members elected lesser-known figures in the party’s divisional polls.

Besides Nik Nazmi and Saraswathy, PKR Youth chief Adam Adli, his predecessor Akmal Nasir, as well as several MPs and assemblymen also lost.

Fresh elections were held for four divisions last week, with PKR deputy information chief Chua Wei Kiat and former Kapar MP G Manivannan overturning their losses in the initial polls to be elected the heads of the Selayang and Jempol divisions, respectively.

Fuziah said the central leadership would hold a nationwide “pre-congress” tour to convey “accurate and comprehensive” information about the congress to delegates.

“The head office will also prepare a special platform during the pre-congress for the candidates in the central leadership elections to meet with delegates and introduce themselves,” she added.
