Kota Kinabalu: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Information Chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai called for calm and moderation within the coalition, emphasising that any concerns or dissatisfaction should be addressed constructively and must not be allowed to undermine its unity.
Acknowledging that it is normal for parties within a coalition to hold differing views, Joniston said such matters are best addressed through internal dialogue.
He believed that under the leadership of GRS Chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, these differences could be managed with maturity and mutual respect.
Joniston was responding to recent differing views that have emerged within the coalition, sparking concerns over its unity and direction.
“I strongly believe that leadership in GRS is measured not just by political strength, but by the ability to listen, accommodate and collaborate even in disagreement,” he said in a statement, Monday.
He also emphasised that constructive engagement is key to maintaining a strong and focused coalition.
“I strongly believe that it would be prudent for all component parties to approach any issues with unity in mind.
“Whatever concerns we have, let’s bring them to the table and thrash them out amicably,” he said.
Meanwhile, Joniston, who is also Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Information Chief, reaffirmed PBS’s commitment to keeping the coalition grounded in unity and shared purpose.
“As a founding member of GRS, PBS recognises the value each component brings. Our diversity is a strength, and it must be guided by mutual respect and a common purpose.
“Our vision for Sabah’s progress must always rise above personal or party ambitions. That is the spirit in which GRS was formed, and the spirit we must uphold.”
Joniston said PBS remains committed to playing a constructive role in ensuring GRS stays united and effective.
He also urged all component parties to exercise restraint and prioritise internal mechanisms for conflict resolution.
“PBS remains steadfast in its dedication to the principles of unity, mutual respect and shared responsibility within GRS.
“We are confident that by upholding these values, our coalition will continue to serve as a beacon of effective governance and a catalyst for positive change in Sabah,” he said.
