Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah contingent clinched the runners-up spot at the Allianz-MSN-Prema National Para-Swimming Circuit held at the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil from May 2-4.

They took home 45 gold, 16 silver and 18 bronze medals to finish behind Selangor who won 48 golds, 13 silvers and 14 bronzes, while in third place was Kuala Lumpur with 15 golds, 18 silvers and 8 bronzes.

The State team led by two technical officers and five coaches was represented by 22 swimmers with 18 from Kota Kinabalu and four from Sandakan.

The athletes were M. Fairuz Abdullah, Shahafiq Abdullah, Abd Halim Mohammad, Chia Faang Jann, Sitti Khairunnisa Hairun, Nur Izza Hadirah Halim, Rasha Lim Jing Min, Suriyan Shah Malik, M. Rizal Meseri, Anas Soleh Mohd Daud, Raj Ashraffy Mohd Naufik, Wahyu Eqwal Nazrey, Lyksther Elvenzo Oswold, Nursuhailah Rudi, Nuranati Shafikah, Asrul Sirayuddin, Sharlinie Valerie Voo Wen Qin, Sylvester Victor Voo Tze Chung, Vernice Ho Wen Xuan, Ethan Khoo Yin Jun, Chen Zai Sheng and Jonathan Wong Zee Siang.

Coach Eva Wong said the competition was to select swimmers for the Asian Youth Para Games and six Sabahans who have been shortlisted are Rasha Lim (S14), Chen Zai Sheng (S12), Wahyu Eqwal (S5),  Jonathan Wong (S5), Sharlinie Voo (S6) and Nur Izza Hadirah (S10).
