SIPITANG: Residents in 13 villages under the Sindumin constituency will soon enjoy electricity supply as 275 electric poles are set to be installed in the area.

Sindumin Assemblyman Datuk Dr. Yusof Yacob said the project, approved under federal funding, was secured through a joint effort with Sabah Electricity (SE).

“This will benefit villagers who previously had no electricity due to the lack of infrastructure. The appointed contractor will begin installing the poles in the affected villages soon,” he said during the opening ceremony of SE’s new Sipitang office, recently.

The event was officiated by SE Chairman Datuk Seri Madius Tangau, with SE Chief Executive Officer Mohd Yaakob Jaafar also in attendance.

Dr. Yusof, who is also Qhazanah Sabah Berhad Chairman, urged SE to extend its corporate social responsibility efforts by funding additional electric poles for new homes in the district.

“Many households currently rely on solar lamps and cannot use essential appliances like refrigerators,” he said.

On the new SE office, Dr. Yusof expressed confidence that it would improve operational efficiency and make it easier for customers to lodge complaints or resolve electricity-related issues.

He also called on SE field officers to conduct regular maintenance, particularly in clearing tree branches covering power lines and poles, to prevent supply disruptions.

“Regular trimming of vegetation around electrical infrastructure is crucial to ensuring uninterrupted power supply,” he added.
