Annuar Musa urges PN to support GRS in Sabah polls
PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional should support Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the upcoming Sabah polls since Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional have already announced their own alliance, says a PAS leader.

PAS deputy election director Annuar Musa claimed that the PH-BN alliance was an indication that the federal government coalition aims to dominate Sabah’s political landscape.

Annuar, a former Umno secretary-general, also said the now-defunct Muafakat Nasional pact between Umno and PAS had believed that the local coalitions in Sabah and Sarawak should be supported rather than competed with.

“I hope that PN will consider supporting GRS. In fact, if necessary, we could study the option of contesting under the GRS banner or even stay out of the state elections. After all, GRS used to be part of PN as well,” he said in a Facebook post, adding that this was his personal view.

Tuan Ibrahim says nomoonover Sabah

Separately, Malaysiakini quoted PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man as saying it was likely that the Islamic party would not be using its iconic “moon” emblem in the Sabah polls.

He said PAS would likely use the emblem of whichever party it teams up with.

Tuan Ibrahim also mooted a grand coalition involving PN and local parties, such as GRS and Warisan, to take on BN-PH at the polls.

Earlier, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the BN-PH alliance did not mean that the two coalitions did not want to work with local parties.

On Friday, GRS chairman Hajiji Noor said the party was ready to contest in the elections on its own if PH and BN have finalised their decision to cooperate for the state polls.

However, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim expressed optimism today that PH, BN and GRS could agree on an election pact.
