Bung calls for real action

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin called for real action on Sabah’s rights, warning that slogans like “Sabah for Sabahans” risk isolating the state from meaningful federal cooperation.

Bung, in a statement, took aim at Star President Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, accusing him of using divisive rhetoric rather than genuine efforts to address the state’s needs.

“Figures like the late Tun Datu Mustapha Datu Harun did not champion Sabah’s rights by stoking divisions but by building bridges of trust between the state and the Federation,” Bung said.

He added that Sabah’s voice at the federal level is now being respected, with state rights, allocations, and involvement in national policies gradually being restored through quiet, consistent negotiations, not public outcry.

Bung also questioned the sincerity of Jeffrey’s MA63 advocacy, highlighting that many promises made when he was in the opposition have yet to materialise.

“If the struggle was truly genuine, why do the villages under his leadership remain underdeveloped? Why are the same old promises still being repeated, leaving the people frustrated with empty rhetoric?” he said.

He urged Sabah leaders to focus on real progress, not divisive slogans, and to address pressing issues like clean water, stable electricity and sustainable jobs.

“Umno Sabah stands with the people in their time of need, not just during election campaigns,” he added.
