Filipino jailed seven years for wielding machete in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: A Filipino was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment by the Sessions Court here on Thursday for carrying a dangerous weapon in public.

Judge Zaini Fishir @ Fisal handed down the sentence after Abdul Atar Jakal, 27, pleaded guilty to possessing a 70-centimetre machete without a sheath at ABX Bandar Indah on 28 April.

The court was told that police received a report of a man acting aggressively with a machete in the area around 11am that day.

Abdul had swung the weapon at officers and fled towards Bandar Kim Fung and Sri Taman before being apprehended.
