KOTA KINABALU: A 64-year-old man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison plus ten strokes of the cane for the repeated rape of his daughter in Tuaran.
The horrific abuse commenced when the victim was just eight years old and continued until she was 16.
This resulted in the birth of a child, who is now ten years old.
Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan delivered the sentence after the man admitted to the incestuous acts against his now 26-year-old daughter, which occurred at the end of 2014.
The court stated that despite the absence of previous convictions, the severity of the crime could not be overlooked due to its profound impact on both the victim and her child's future.
The prosecution had argued for a significant custodial sentence, highlighting the gravity of the offences and a concerning increase in similar cases within Sabah.
Following his release, the court has also ordered that the man be subject to police supervision for three years.
