Held for beating son with timing belt

LAHAD DATU: Police detained a local man for causing injuries to his 13-year-old son in a domestic violence incident at Kampung Sharip, here, on Saturday.

District Acting Police Chief, Supt Jimmy Panyau, said the victim was helping the 38-year-old suspect repair a vehicle in the area when the incident happened.

He said, the suspect later hit the victim using his hand as well as car timing belt. 

“The incident was reported by the suspect’s ex-wife who received pictures of their child’s injuries from their other children through Whatsapp.

“The victim suffered bruises on his back, ribs and right leg. The suspect was detained at about 12.10pm on the same day,” he said.

According to Jimmy, investigation would be carried out under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

The offence carries a jail term of up to 10 years or with fine or with whipping or with any two of such punishment.

In the meantime, Jimmy also said police will take stern action against any individuals who resort to  domestic violence.
