SEMPORNA: Gagasan Rakyat Supreme Council Member Datuk Hassan A Gani Pg Amir called on Bugaya residents to be bold in making a leadership change in the upcoming State election to ensure more balanced and comprehensive development can be enjoyed in the area.
He said since being under Warisan in 2018, Bugaya has lagged behind other areas in terms of infrastructure and basic facilities.

“This area has been led by the same party for several terms, yet the expected changes have not materialised,” he said.
“Even though there have been leaders from Semporna who held important positions at the State and Federal levels, development in Bugaya has not shown significant progress.”
He said this when officiating the Bugaya Gagasan Rakyat Division’s Annual Conference at the Semporna Community Hall on Saturday.
The event was also attended by Kunak Assemblywoman, Datuk Norazlinah Arif and over 1,500 residents from around Bugaya.

Hassan said Gagasan Rakyat is increasingly accepted by the people of Sabah due to its clear struggle and people-centric approach.
“If the people give their mandate to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), I am confident that Semporna, including Bugaya, will receive better developmental spill over from the next state government, God willing,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bugaya Gagasan Rakyat Division Chief, Marunda KK Ampong, also urged residents to rise and make bold decisions for the sake of future generations.
“For example, in Kampung Lihak-Lihak, a remote area that lacks a health clinic, police post or even a shop.
“Students have to travel to Semporna just to buy books and school shoes, with bus fares exceeding RM20,” he said.
He said, as leaders, they are responsible for understanding and resolving community issues, especially in areas with many students and active schools.
He said the people of Bugaya must rise, must make a change and must have the courage to transform for the common good.
Marunda also informed that PGRS Bugaya Division now has 87 branches with membership reaching 6,000 people, a clear sign that support for the party is growing ahead of the 17th State election.
