YB: Continuous upgrade for sports facilities in Karamunting
George said that sports are not only vital for physical health, but also play a key role in building camaraderie and unity among residents.
SANDAKAN: Sports facilities such as futsal courts and solar-powered lights in the Karamunting constituency will continue to be upgraded to encourage youth participation in physical activities and to strengthen community ties.

Karamunting Assemblyman Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin said that sports are not only vital for physical health, but also play a key role in building camaraderie and unity among residents.

“These days, many young people spend too much time indoors on their phones. I want to encourage them to be more active whether through futsal, hiking, or other outdoor activities.

“Sports are not just good for the body. They also benefit mental health and social wellbeing,” he said this during the launch of the Kampung Combo Bukit Futsal Tournament, which saw the participation of 10 local teams including Combo Atas, Combo Sebelah, Combo Tengah, and Combo Belakang.

“I’m always open to hearing the voices of the people. Events like these give me a chance to connect with residents and better understand the needs of the community,” he said.

Hiew also announced plans to install more solar-powered lights at recreational areas to allow residents to safely enjoy sports and activities at night.

“This is especially important for young people who often train or play after school or work hours,” he said.

Hiew expressed hope that improved sports facilities will encourage the youth of Karamunting to lead active, healthy lives and continue fostering strong community bonds.
