Kota Kinabalu: Former Sabah Bersatu Deputy Chairman Aksyah Nasrah said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi failed to provide effective solutions to Sabah’s fundamental issues of water shortages, electricity supply despite being Minister of Rural Development.
“He should have resolved these infrastructure issues within three months. Yet, his remarks suggest that everything remains at the rhetoric stage,” Aksyah said.
Aksyah reminded Sabahans not to forget Barisan Nasional’s (BN) nearly 30-year rule, which failed to provide adequate basic infrastructure. He also pointed out that high unemployment rates remain a lingering issue inherited by GRS.
“What’s worse, when Warisan’s President held the Federal rural development portfolio, many projects meant to help the people turned into white elephants. Even the creation of new ministries due to personal political conflicts shows misplaced priorities,” he said.
He criticised former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal for cancelling the Pan Borneo Highway’s PDP system and water concessions, which he claimed had long-term consequences on Sabah’s development.
“GRS is now leading recovery efforts through the Sabah Maju Jaya framework, focusing not only on infrastructure improvements but also revitalising Sabah’s struggling economy,” he said.
Aksyah said the “Sabah for Sabahan” slogan is not about parochialism but reflects the struggle for local leadership that understands Sabah’s realities and fights for its rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“The slogan embodies the fight to reclaim Sabah’s long-neglected rights. The Federal Government must respect and fulfil its commitments under this historic agreement,” he said.
