Kota Kinabalu: Three company workers were fined a total of RM3,800 by the Magistrate’s Court here for keeping various stolen items belonging to a courier company.
Roslan Muhadi, 29, Md Shazrul Kamaruddin, 23, and Nazieha Nasir, 27, pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to having the stolen properties belonging to Flash Malaysia Express Sdn Bhd, last week.
Roslan, a hub operations officer, was ordered to pay a fine of RM1,600 or four weeks in jail for keeping a stolen laptop, a handphone and a hairdryer on May 14, this year, at 11pm, at a house in Kg Simpangan, Jalan Mimpian Jadi, Tuaran.
Shazrul, an admin officer, was fined RM1,200 or four weeks’ jail for keeping a stolen lighting busking pro Bluetooth karaoke set, on May 14, at 11.53pm, in a unit at Taman Puri Warisan, Inanam.
Nazieha Nasir, hub customer service personnel, was fined RM1,000 or four weeks’ jail for keeping a stolen portable diffuser on May 15, at 2pm, at a unit in Taman Gloxinia, Kinarut, Papar.
They were each charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to five years or a fine or both, on conviction.
The prosecution, in tendering the facts of the case, informed the court that the complainant, a security manager at the hub, had been informed by senior management on May 9, regarding the disappearance of parcels belonging to Flash Malaysia Express Sdn Bhd, at the Malaysia East 1 Hub, Sepanggar.
The complainant immediately reviewed the CCTV footage and discovered that the three accused, were among several employees at the said hub who had taken an unclaimed parcel for personal use.
The complainant then lodged a police report.
The court heard that Roslan, who was an operations officer; Shazrul, an administrative officer; and Nazieha, a Hub Operator, all of whom were attached to the ME1 Hub in Sepanggar, confessed to taking the items belonging to Flash Malaysia Express Sdn Bhd from the Returns/Auction Section without the company’s authorisation.
The three had kept the items at separate locations, from which the police later recovered them.
Further investigations revealed that all the items were on the list of missing parcels submitted by the complainant, who identified all the seized goods.
Inspector Mohamad Hamidi Mohamad Hamzah prosecuted.
