Cops detain woman linked to Bachok acid attack

KOTA BHARU:  Police have arrested a woman suspected of throwing a liquid believed to be acid on a spa owner in Beris Kubur Besar, Bachok, last Saturday.

Kelantan police chief Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the 38-year-old local suspect was detained to assist in investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code.

He said the arrest was carried out by the special investigation division (D9) of the Kelantan contingent police headquarters, together with personnel from the Bachok district police headquarters in an integrated operation in front of a rubber factory in Kuala Krai at 4pm yesterday.

“The suspect works at a rubber factory and has no criminal record. Police also seized a Perodua Myvi, a mobile phone, and a vehicle control device,” Yusoff said in a statement today.

He added that a remand application for the woman would be submitted to the Bachok magistrates’ court today to facilitate further investigations.

Yusoff said police would take strict action against any individual who causes serious injuries.

He also advised the public not to speculate on the case and urged those with relevant information to contact the Bachok district police headquarters or the nearest police station.

Last Saturday, a female trader was doused with a liquid believed to be acid by an unknown individual in an incident near a convenience store in Beris Kubur Besar, Tawang.

The attack left the victim with severe burns on her shoulder, back, arms and legs. She is currently reported to be in stable condition and is receiving treatment at Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital, Kubang Kerian.
