Kota Kinabalu: Fire broke out at a 275-room hotel under construction, here, Thursday. 

The fire caused damage to the 15-storey Fairfield by Marriot before firefighters brought it under control. There were no casualties.  It is understood more than 100 workers were working at the site when it happened. 

The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 9.56am and arrived at the scene by 10.01am.

A total of 19 firefighters from various stations, including Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Lintas, responded. The team used a 300-foot water jet stream from a fire engine to extinguish the flames. 

The fire was fully brought control by 10.25am and completely extinguished by 10.58am. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Other agencies, including the police, Sabah Electricity and the Water Department also assisted at the scene.
