SEMPORNA: A local man was detained and 5,270kg of subsidised cooking oil worth RM15,675 seized during a raid in Kampung Seri Melor on Wednesday.
The operation, conducted under "Ops Taring Bravo 2" by the General Operations Force (GOF) Kunak 22nd Battalion and the Domestic Trade Ministry (KPDN), uncovered 310 boxes containing 1kg oil packets.
GOF Sabah Commander Datuk Abdul Rani Alias said the man failed to show documents for the items, believed to have been sourced from another district. He is suspected of trading in subsidised goods since early 2025.
The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. Authorities pledged continued efforts to curb smuggling of subsidised
items.
