Kota Kinabalu: Two men were each fined RM1,500, or jailed four months on Thursday for assaulting their colleague.
James Wong, 26, and Mohammad Salifudin, 24, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to voluntarily causing hurt to Rosman Lin, 19, on May 8, this year, at 11.30pm, at a sales kiosk next to a mini market in Kg Dambai, Manggatal.
Wong and Mohammad were jointly charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, on conviction.
Earlier, the prosecution told the court that Rosman’s older brother had found him with injuries to his face and eyes, after he was beaten by his colleagues.
Rosman was then taken to hospital for treatment.
Police investigations revealed that two supervisors at Rosman’s workplace had attacked him.
The incident happened after the supervisors discovered that RM1,000 was missing during a routine collection of the company’s sales proceeds, said the prosecution.
In another case, a 38-year-old man was ordered to pay a fine of RM1,000 ,or two months in jail for having illegal gambling paraphernalia.
Rolis Masintak admitted to having two pieces of illegal lottery tickets on April 4, this year, at 2.45pm, in front of a grocery shop in Kg Lobou 1, Manggatal.
The prosecution told the court that Rolis was arrested after police found lottery tickets and some cash on him during a screening.
Rolis requested a lenient sentence through counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, who added that he is married with two children.
The prosecution applied for a deterrent sentence.
Rolis was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act carries a jail term of up to six months, or a fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction.
