The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will implement the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) in two phases to help stabilize prices during Kaamatan and Gawai.
SHMMP Kaamatan will run from May 27 to June 2, and SHMMP Gawai from May 29 to June 4, covering three days before and after each festival to balance consumer and trader interests.
KPDN Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said SHMMP Kaamatan 2025 will include 10 controlled items, up from eight last year, with the addition of imported large yellow and red onions.
SHMMP Gawai will control 11 items, adding whole coconuts, grated coconut, and coconut milk to last year’s list. These items were decided in consultation with the Ministry of Agriculture and industry players.
The SHMMP operates under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, which authorizes setting maximum prices. These prices are available on KPDN’s website.
Enforcement officers will monitor compliance at markets and shopping areas, with a soft approach emphasizing education and warnings.
However, strict penalties await violators. Individuals selling above maximum prices face fines up to RM100,000 or three years in jail, while companies can be fined up to RM500,000. Failure to display pink price tags also carries penalties, with fines up to RM20,000 for companies and RM10,000 for individuals.
Armizan said KPDN will continue to work with relevant agencies to ensure sufficient supply and intervene in price or supply disruptions.
Other initiatives under the ‘Payung Rahmah’ banner, including PJRM and SIM@PAX, aim to ease the cost of living further.
The public is urged to report non-compliance for swift enforcement action.
