JOHOR BAHRU: PKR is aiming to contest at least 13 seats in the upcoming Sabah state election, according to its newly elected deputy president, Nurul Izzah Anwar.

She expressed hope that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim would negotiate with Pakatan Harapan components and other allied parties contesting the state polls to help achieve the target.

“We need the president to negotiate for a minimum of 13 seats in Sabah,” she said during her winding-up speech at the PKR national congress held at the Persada International Convention Centre here today.

Previously, PH and Barisan Nasional  announced their intention to work together for the upcoming Sabah state election.

The Sabah legislative assembly has a total of 73 seats. In the last state election in September 2020, PKR only managed to win two seats.

The state assembly’s term will expire on Nov 11. Elections must be held within 60 days of the assembly being dissolved.

Nurul Izzah also urged party members from all states to actively campaign in the Sabah state election.

“Don’t forget, responsibilities have already been assigned. So I’m calling on our teams from Selangor, Johor and other states to support the campaign in Sabah.

“Make sure we show up in full force to help with the campaign. Most importantly, we must win as a united movement,” she said.

In a policy speech earlier today, Anwar said the party’s political bureau will hold a special meeting, likely on May 29, to discuss preparations for the Sabah state election.
