KENINGAU: A couple from Kg Kilo Lanas, Sook, aged 60 and 55, sustained serious injuries in a road accident involving an Isuzu D-Max single cab and a Ford Ranger 4WD along KM14 of the Sook–Keningau road on Friday.
The husband, who was driving the Isuzu D-Max on his way home from Keningau, suffered a serious injury to his right knee.
His wife, a passenger in the same vehicle, sustained a fractured right shoulder and broken ribs on the same side.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford Ranger, from Ulu Tomani, Tenom, suffered neck injuries and a bleeding to the head, while his passenger, from Kg Bundu Paka, Kota Belud, sustained minor injuries to his right arm.
Both men, aged 25, are employed as Forest Audit Officers with Global Forestry Service.
Keningau District Police Chief Superintendent Yampil Anak Garai confirmed the incident, stating that police received a report from public member at 4.50pm on the day of the accident.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Ford Ranger was heading towards Keningau from Sook, while the Isuzu D-Max was travelling in the opposite direction.
“Upon reaching a bend at the accident site, the Ford Ranger driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle, veering into the oncoming lane and colliding head-on with the Isuzu D-Max,” he said.
As a result of the collision, the Ford Ranger overturned in the middle of the road, while the Isuzu D-Max skidded off to the left shoulder.
