TAWAU: Police arrested a foreigner suspected of possessing another person’s MyKad at a lodging, here, Friday.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect was apprehended during a crime prevention patrol.
“The police team, led by Inspector Hamka Ab Rashid, detained the man after finding him acting suspiciously in front of a building,” he said on Sunday.
Jasmin said the suspect attempted to flee when officers tried to inspect him but was caught by the on-duty personnel.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspect verbally claimed to have identification documents, but checks confirmed that the documents did not belong to him.
“The police team arrested the suspect after finding two MyKad cards, a MyKid and a birth certificate under another person’s name in his wallet,” he said.
Further investigation found that the man was a foreigner without valid identification documents permitting him to stay in the country.
The suspect and the seized items were taken to the Tawau District Police Headquarters for further action after verifying that the documents did not belong to him.
