Sabah PKR's 13-seat bid based on cooperation, not central control
KOTA KINABALU: KOTA KINABALU: PKR’s proposal to contest 13 seats in the upcoming Sabah state election is the result of ongoing discussions with Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), not a top-down decision from the party’s national leadership, said Mohd Guntur Sangkar.

Responding to STAR Sabah’s accusation that PKR is acting as a political outsider, Guntur, who is a member of the AMK Malaysia Leadership Council, stressed that PKR Sabah is “not merely a branch that blindly follows central directives.”

“Our proposal was shaped in the spirit of mature political cooperation, without sidelining local parties,” he said in a statement.

He added that PKR is the only national party to formally enshrine the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) in its constitution, underscoring its commitment to Sabah’s rights and autonomy.

Criticising STAR’s past alignment with Perikatan Nasional, Guntur said, “STAR should reflect on its own record before labelling others. It once aligned with a coalition that weakened Sabah’s MA63 position and failed on development promises.”

“What Sabah needs is stability and principle, not opportunism,” he added.
