LAHAD DATU: The police arrested a man suspected of impersonating Traffic Police Officer to solve an accident case in Kunak last February.

District Acting Police Chief, Supt Jimmy Panyau,  said following an accident on Feb 3 at Ladang Giram, Kunak, the suspect claimed himself as Traffic Police personnel and a witness of the accident.

“The suspect later offered the victim to solve the accident case by demanding money for repairing works. However, the victim found that the suspect is not a police officer and believed he had been deceived,” he said in a statement.

Jimmy said the suspect was also listed as a wanted person and had two previous criminal records for various offences.

He said the suspect was currently in their custody under Section 420 of the Penal Code. Jimmy added that they had applied for remand to probe the suspect.
