PENAMPANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has denied claims of a government cover-up involving viral corruption videos, insisting that all investigations must follow due process.

Speaking at the state-level Kaamatan celebration, Anwar said Malaysia is governed by the rule of law, not by perception, slander, or political pressure.

He explained that investigations into the videos are already underway, with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) conducting forensic analysis.

Anwar noted that prosecutions cannot be based on unverified or potentially AI-altered clips and stressed the importance of legal standards.

He reaffirmed that his role is to ensure institutions function independently, warning that mob demands and politicisation could erode public trust.

He acknowledged the presence of corruption within the system but said cleaning it up must be done through principled and lawful means.
