SANDAKAN: A 26-year-old man was jailed five years and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for taking syabu repeatedly.

Sessions Court Judge Zaini Fishir @ Fisal handed the sentence to Mazlee Abd Latif, who admitted to taking the drug in March this year after his urine tested positive at the police station, here.

He has two previous conviction records for taking  drugs.

The offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) and punishable under Section 39C(1) of DDA.

After serving the jail sentence, Mazlee was ordered placed under police supervision for two years.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Al-Hakim Abdul Razak appeared for the prosecution while Mazler was not represented.
