Kota Kinabalu: A 41-year-old unemployed man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here Thursday with two counts of drugs trafficking.
However, no plea was recorded from Amar Maruf Makruf after the charges were read out to him.
On the first count, Amar was accused of trafficking 2,844.18gm of 3,4 Methylenedioxymethamphetamine on May 18, this year, at 11.21pm, on the fourth floor parking lot, Asia City Complex, here.
Amar, on the second count, allegedly trafficked 231.55gm of ketamine at the same place same time.
Each charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952 carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life in prison and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes.
Amar was also charged with having 5gm of Nimetazipam at the same place and time.
The charge is framed under Section 12(2) of the DDA.
The court fixed July 9 for mention of all cases pending the chemist’s reports.
Amar was ordered to be remanded further pending the date as the two trafficking charges against him have no provision for bail.
He was unrepresented.
