Sabah Agro-Industrial Park enters new phase with agro-pharma firms

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Agro-Industrial Park (Saip) has entered a new phase of development with two leading companies, Callabio Manufacturing Sdn Bhd and Sanomedical Asiapac Sdn Bhd, officially commencing operations at the high-tech facilities in Kimanis.

Callabio Manufacturing Sdn Bhd will operate the Herbal Processing Facility (HPF) and Product Manufacturing Facility (PLF), producing nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, herbal-based food products, and isotonic drinks.

Meanwhile, Sanomedical Asiapac Sdn Bhd will manage the Cosmetic Laboratory, focusing on the manufacturing of medical and healthcare products.

Datuk James WongThe lease agreements between Saip Sdn Bhd and the two companies were signed by Saip Directors Datuk James Wong and Datuk Dr Ramzah Dambul. Callabio was represented by its Chief Executive Officer Dr Shahir Suhaimi, while Sanomedical was represented by its General Manager Helgah Veronica Smith Lagadan.

Both companies committed deposits of RM125,000 and RM100,000 respectively to begin operations at Saip.

Present at the signing ceremony was the Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship who is also the Chairman of Saip Sdn Bhd Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe.

He said this development aligns with the State Government’s goal to position Saip as an incubation hub for local agro-industry and biotechnology entrepreneurs.

“Saip is more than just an industrial park, it is a platform for talent development, innovation, and high-value manufacturing that will propel Sabah forward in the agro-biotech sector,”  Phoong said.

During the event, CAIQ Biosecurity Sdn Bhd also presented a proposal for a joint venture with Saip to establish the industrial park as a key centre for testing, inspection and registration of food, supplements, agricultural, and aquaculture products from Sabah for export to China.

Situated on a 215-acre site in Kimanis, Papar, Saip is recognised as a crucial catalyst for advancing Sabah’s agricultural sector and providing opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs and industries to grow.
