Kota Kinabalu: A 27-year-old woman was fined RM3,000, or jailed six months by the Magistrate’s Court here Wednesday for smashing multiple windows of a car, last year.
Nuratikah Baktiar, who appeared before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin, pleaded guilty to committing mischief by breaking the rear and front windscreens, as well as the left door window of a Perodua Bezza belonging to Marcellus Gamiun, causing a total loss of RM1,000.
The offence was committed on May 29, 2024, at 10am, behind a shop at Country Heights, Penampang.
The charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between one year and five year or fine or both, on conviction.
Unrepresented, Nuratikah requested a lenient sentence, citing that she is a homemaker and has a seven-month-old child.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Kareena Kaur Gill Karamjit Singh prosecuting, applied for an appropriate sentence.
In another case, two women were penalised for engaging in illegal gambling activities.
Alviera Castiel, 22, was ordered to pay a fine of RM1,400 or a month in jail for having gambling paraphernalia.
She admitted to committing the offence by having four slips of illegal lottery tickets on May 18, this year, at 5.30pm, at the five-foot-way of a shop in Donggongon town, Penampang.
Alviera was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to six months, or both, on conviction.
Meanwhile, Norazuana, 23, was fined RM1,300 or a month I jail for engaging in online gambling “Kiss 918” in public on Feb 13, this year, at 5.30pm, at a premises in Country Heights shop in Penampang.
The charge under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, or a jail term of up to six months, or both, on conviction.
The court also ordered the RM100 and RM67 seized from Alviera and Norazuana, respectively, to be forfeited as government revenue.
