TAWAU: A man in his 30s was arrested on Friday for allegedly attacking his former brother-in-law and ex-wife after being refused a meeting with his former spouse.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect was apprehended in front of a factory at the Batu 3, Jalan Apas industrial area following a complaint lodged on June 1.
The incident happened on May 31 around 11pm when the suspect arrived at his ex-wife’s residence seeking to meet her.
When the 25-year-old former brother-in-law tried to intervene and asked him to stop disturbing his sister, the situation escalated violently.
“The suspect acted aggressively, punching the former brother-in-law in the face, causing facial injuries and breaking a tooth,” Jasmin said on Saturday.
The suspect also allegedly kicked his ex-wife, injuring her face and nose, and threatened to assault her if they encountered each other elsewhere.
He further threatened to burn down the family’s residence before the victims lodged a police report.
Investigation revealed that the suspect has no valid identification documents.
He is being held under Section 323 (causing hurt) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Police checks showed the suspect has no prior criminal record. He remains in remand as investigations continue.
