PETALING JAYA: One of the vehicles seen in CCTV footage of Pamela Ling’s alleged abduction was recently spotted near the Thai border, according to her lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo.
In a statement, Sangeet said that several weeks ago, the family was informed that one of the cars seen in the footage was found abandoned near the Thai border.
“Weeks later, no updates have been provided regarding forensic testing of the items found in the car.
“Given the obvious possibility that she was taken across the border, the family was last informed (a few weeks ago) that Interpol had not yet been alerted – what are the police waiting for?” she said.
Sangeet also said that Ling’s family was informed by the police that they had been “able to find nothing” when asked about the investigation into Ling’s disappearance.
“After purportedly taking statements from 47 people, the police have no leads,” she said, questioning the competence of the force in probing her client’s case.
On Saturday, lawyer N Sivanathan, also representing Ling, urged the authorities to release the CCTV recording, saying the investigation “seems to have reached a dead end”.
He also called for the images of her alleged assailants to be released.
Ling, 42, was reported missing on April 9 while on her way to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s headquarters in Putrajaya.
On May 8, Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said they had CCTV footage of her alleged abduction.
Rusdi also revealed that five vehicles were involved in the incident, three of which had used cloned number plates.
About eight suspects are believed to have been involved in the alleged kidnapping, with CCTV footage showing that two of them were wearing police vests.
On May 15, Rusdi said that Ling’s husband, Sarawakian businessman Hah Tiing Siu, had been arrested to assist in an investigation, but did not disclose the nature of the probe.
MACC chief Azam Baki previously said that Ling was a witness in a money laundering investigation.
