Kota Kinabalu: The Perhimpunan Aman Gempur Rasuah Sabah 2.0, organised by Suara Mahasiswa Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), will start at Suria Sabah and proceed through Anjung Kinabalu market and Centre Point before ending at Lintasan Deasoka, Gaya Street.
The two-day student-led rally, set to take place from June 21 to 22, aims to oppose corruption and all forms of power abuse. The gathering is scheduled to begin at 1pm.
The event is expected to attract about 10,000 participants, including students, Sabahans and supporters from Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia. It will feature activities such as speeches, discussions, and so on.
A spokesperson Fidaa’ Ahmad Fahmi said they had submitted the required notice to the police, which had been officially acknowledged.
“There is no need for a police permit, only a notice, and we have already fulfilled that. This is a peaceful assembly in line with the Federal Constitution,” he said during a press conference at Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters, Monday.
Fidaa’ also said the rally would not violate the University Act as it is being held outside the campus and is protected under the Federal Constitution, which guarantees the right to peaceful assembly.
The event is expected to coincide with the Saturday market, which could attract more visitors to the area and benefit local traders.
The public can follow Suara Mahasiswa’s Instagram and TikTok for updates and the event schedule.
