PENAMPANG: United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) Deputy President Datuk Donald Mojuntin announced his intention to contest the N26 Moyog state seat in the coming 17th Sabah State Election (PRN17).
He announced this during the festive launch of the Penampang Parliament Kaamatan Celebration held at Tamu Desa Inobong on Sunday.
The previous Moyog representative said he has over 30 years of political experience and strong grassroots support.
“I am ready to serve the people once again and contribute to the development of the constituency. I believe Moyog holds tremendous potential.
“With the collaboration and action plans outlined by Upko President Datuk Ewon Benedick as Member of Parliament for Penampang, we can elevate Moyog to a more developed and sustainable level.
“This is not an empty promise, but a continuation of the efforts that have already been set in motion,” he said confidently.
Mojuntin, 60, is a lawyer by profession. He was as a Senator from Dec 2018 to Dec 2021.
He was elected as Moyog representative from March 2008 to May 2013 and Penampang MP from March 2004 to March 2008.
Mojuntin emphasised that under the leadership of Ewon, Upko is committed to transforming Penampang into a progressive entrepreneurial hub.
He believes that Moyog will play a vital role in achieving this greater vision.
He stressed that the youth of Moyog must be the backbone of this transformation.
“Do not fear of change. Be leaders in your communities and let us build Moyog together,” he urged.
The presence of hundreds of attendees and local residents at the event here Sunday signified strong support and high hopes for experienced and people-centric leadership such as Mojuntin.
The top leadership of Upko believes that with a combination of experience, sincerity, and unwavering spirit, Mojuntin is the most qualified candidate to continue the progress and development of Moyog.
Upko is a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.
He has served as PH Vice President since August 2021 and Upko Deputy President since November 2019.
He is also the son of former State Minister of Housing and Local Government, Datuk Peter Joinod Mojuntin who died in the Sabah Air GAF Nomad crash on June 6, 1976.
His father was famous as the Golden Son of the Kadazan who fought to uphold the rights of the Kadazan in Penampang.
