Houses razed in Ranau, Penampang

RANAU: A family lost all of their possessions after their house and cars were razed, early Monday.

Head of the Ranau BBP Station, PPgB Rantey Fred, said the incident happened in Kg Poring Jalan Hot Spring Ranau at about 1am.

According to him, a call was received through the station line and a group of seven firemen, led by the Operations Commander, PBK II Becket Gumat, rushed to the location.

“Arriving at the scene located 19km from the station, we found a two-storey non-permanent house and three vehicles, namely, a Proton Exora, Suzuki Jeep and Perodua Kancil engulfed in flames.

“The firemen extinguished the fire by using two 200ft jets of water from the machinery tank. Unfortunately, the house and cars were destroyed,” he said, adding that the operation ended at 3.30am.

He reiterated the call towards the public to be more cautious, especially during dry and windy seasons.

In PENAMPANG, semi-permanent house was partially destroyed in a fire that broke out along Jalan Sindanan, early Monday.

The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department said the Penampang Fire Station received an emergency call at 9.17am via the MERS999.

A team of seven firefighters, led by Operations Commander PBK II KUP Marcus Junior, was dispatched to the scene, located 3km from the station.

They were assisted by six personnel from the Kota Kinabalu Fire Station using two fire engines, an EMRS unit and a water tanker.

The house was 30 per cent destroyed.

“The fire was brought under control by 9.38am and the operation ended at 10.20am,” the department said in a statement.

A 37-year-old man suffered breathing difficulties and was treated on the scene by the EMRS team.

There was no casualty and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
