KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to act with compassion and refrain from expelling or suspending the 13 students involved in last weekend’s protest rally.
Higher Education Minister Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir said Anwar personally contacted him on Tuesday to express concern over the students’ future, emphasising the importance of allowing them to complete their studies despite campus regulations and the protest targeting him.
“Out of compassion, the Prime Minister hopes these students won’t face expulsion or academic suspension,” Zambry said after a student dialogue at UMS.
The protest, held over two days in the city centre, included the burning of a caricature of the Prime Minister.
