TAWAU: Police arrested a foreign woman suspected of being a drug dealer in a raid on a house in Kg Sungai Melayu, Pulau Sebatik, here, Thursday.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the 38-year-old was believed sactively operating around the island, particularly in Kg Bergosong.
“We seized 18 packets of different sizes containing clear crystal lumps suspected to be syabu (methamphetamine) weighing about 6.18 grammes,” he said, Friday.
The suspect and the seized items were brought to the police station for further investigation under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) of the same act.
In a separate arrest, Jasmin said police detained a 23-year-old man for investigation in connection with an online purchase scam.
“A check using the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM)’s Mobile Check Aadhaar Device (MCAD) revealed the suspect is believed involved in a fraud case reported in Kuala Penyu,” he said.
He added it was reported in 2023 by a victim who purchased a laptop and tablet worth RM13,000 through a social media platform. According to him, the victim made six payments for the gadgets before realising he had been scammed and lodged a police report.
“The suspect was arrested by a police team from the Bandar Sri Indah Police Station before being handed over to the Tawau District Commercial Crime Investigation Division for further investigation,” he said.
He reminded the public to be cautious when making online purchases and always verify first to avoid falling victim to scams.
