TAWAU: The declaration of reserve land for Kampung Iban Merotai is not a political promise, but a long-overdue move approved even before the upcoming state election, said Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah.
Speaking at the Gawai Day celebration in the village yesterday, the Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah President stressed that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government, led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, had delivered on a 50-year wait within just three months.
“This isn’t an empty promise. After 50 years, the villagers finally received legal land approval. This is a legacy they can pass on for generations,” Liew said.
He urged villagers to support the government in the coming polls and dismissed claims that the land approval was an election ploy.
“The land now belongs to the people of Kampung Iban, permanently. Don’t be swayed by political slander,” he added, promising to upgrade the village hall into a multipurpose centre if given the mandate.
