RANAU: Six families lost everything they owned after their house caught fire in Kg Dumpiring Bawah, Kundasang on Friday afternoon.
Ranau Fire and Rescue Station Chief, PPgB Rantey Fred said that fortunately there were no casualties in the in the 4,15pm incident.
He said Fire and Rescue personnel managed to extinguish the fire to prevent it from spreading to the nearby houses.
“An emergency call was received via the Station Line and a group of six firefighters led by Operations Commander, PBK I Becket bin Gumat rushed to the location.
“Upon arriving at the scene of the incident 18km from the station, we found a fire incident involving a semi-permanent two-storey house measuring 40x60 feet which was entirely burnt.
“The public needs to prioritise safety first because fire in the open area could easily become uncontrollable and could turn disastrous with the risk of losing valuable assets, homes and even lives,” said Rantey.
“If there is any open burning that cannot be avoided, it must be monitored and controlled, in order to prevent the spread of fire to nearby areas,” he said.
