Nightspot caretaker fined
The charge under Section 4 of the PEO 1958 and punishable under Section 11 of the same Ordinance provides for a fine of up to RM50,000, or up to one year in jail, or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: An entertainment outlet caretaker was on Monday fined RM2,500, or jailed eight weeks by the Magistrate’s Court here for operating the outlet without a licence.

Syarin Dewin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to committing the offence at the Oke Gas Bar, Kingfisher plaza, here, on June 7, this year, at 11.25pm.

Syarin was found manning the business without a valid licence issued under Section 6 (1) of the Public Entertainment Ordinance (PEO) 1958.

The charge under Section 4 of the PEO 1958 and punishable under Section 11 of the same Ordinance provides for a fine of up to RM50,000, or up to one year in jail, or both, on conviction.

In another court, a 31-year-old man was fined RM25, or jailed three days for causing annoyance to his younger brother through his behaviour.

Muhibil Murad pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence against Morin Murad, 26, on June 24, this year, at 8.20pm, in a house at Taman Juara, Manggatal.

The charge, framed under Section 8(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance, provides for a RM25 fine on conviction. Inspector Yusdi Basri prosecuted.
