KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded RM16 billion in tourism spending and 7.85 million tourist arrivals from 2021 to 2024 under the SMJ 1.0 plan, said Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan.
Tourists included 5.45 million domestic and 2.4 million international visitors. From January to May 2025 alone, Sabah welcomed 1.44 million tourists, generating RM3.3 billion in spending.
New investments include the Sheraton Kota Kinabalu (opening Q3 2025), Club Med Borneo Kuala Penyu (July 2026), InterContinental Papar (2027), and Hilton Garden Inn Tuaran.
Hyatt Centric and Citadines Waterfront KK began operations in 2022 and 2024, respectively.
