TAWAU: Police have arrested a foreigner suspected of going on a rampage and threatening to attack residents at a home in Kinabutan Batu 5 Jalan Apas on Friday.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin said the aggressive behaviour and criminal threats by the suspect, in his 30s, was reported by the victim who is also his own family member.
The incident happened at about 11.30pm when the suspect allegedly went berserk while wielding a piece of wood at the victim’s house, threatening to attack family members with a machete.
Police arrested the suspect about an hour after the incident was reported and seized a wood measuring about 70 centimetres in length.
Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect, who is a cousin to the victim’s wife, is believed to have committed the act without any clear motive or reason.
Further examination by police also revealed that the suspect does not have any valid identification documents to work and stay in the country.
