KUCHING: Sarawak does not need nuclear power due to its abundant renewable energy resources, said Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Unlike Peninsular Malaysia, which still relies on coal and is exploring nuclear options, Sarawak already harnesses hydro, solar, and gas.
Speaking at the launch of International Energy Week (IEW) 2025, he said Sarawak aims to generate 10GW by 2030 and 15GW by 2035 using clean energy.
He reaffirmed that nuclear is unnecessary for Sarawak and highlighted interest in emerging technologies like fusion energy, which may offer safer, cheaper alternatives.
