Online gaming, prostitution suspects nabbed
LAHAD DATU: Police here arrested a local woman and a man in separate operations for suspected involvement in prostitution and online gambling cases.

District Police Chief, ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said, a 24-year-old local man was detained at about 2.30pm on Thursday at Lorong Lahad Datu Square 1 by the Crime Investigation Division on suspicion of conducting online gambling activities.

“The team also seized a smartphone that contains a gambling application.

“This case would be investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953. which provides for a fine of between RM10,000 and RM100,000 and a jail term of up to five years, on conviction,” he said.

According to Dzulbaharin, at 10.30pm on the same day, police arrested a 21-year-old woman offering sexual services via MiChat application.

He said, the suspect was detained following Op Noda conducted by the Crime Investigation Division on a hotel at Lahad Datu town.

“The suspect was believed to provide sexual service with payment between RM250 to RM350. The team also seized some condoms and cash during the operation.

“The case would be investigated under Section 372 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one-year imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction,” said Dzulbaharin in a statement on Friday.

He said the Lahad Datu Police Headquarters take serious views on all forms of crime that can threaten the well-being of the community, especially social crimes involving baby dumping, prostitution and gambling.

He added that stern action will be taken without compromise for the safety and harmony of the local community.
